We welcome you to join our village of volunteers!
Our volunteers are essential to staffing the store. Volunteers help us to keep our overhead costs lower, which allows us to purchase more products from our artisans. Apply now to join our fun-filled volunteer positions—greeting and interacting with customers, unpacking and checking orders, assisting with displays and operating the cash register. All volunteers sixteen and older are encouraged to come join us any time of year!
Volunteering at our Tallahassee store is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of a congenial, friendly group of people who are united in our common goal of making a difference in the lives of our artisans by selling their products and telling their stories. We are inspired to work harder to increase our sales as we learn of the profound impact that our business has on the economic well-being of our artisan groups and their families and villages. Furthermore, our contributions of time and effort enable us to be a part of a much larger community that embraces a common vision, values and celebrates cultural differences, and actively works to improve the lives of others.
Our staff will match your skills and preferences with the work that needs to be done. Here’s what you need to know about volunteering at Ten Thousand Villages:
Orientation and Training: Training is conducted in three 4-hour sessions. In learning about your volunteer duties, you will be given an opportunity to learn more about the products we sell and the artisans who make them. You will also be paired with an experienced volunteer who will be able to assist you in learning how to perform the more complex aspects of your job.
Time Commitment: We ask that our regular store volunteers work with us at least 8 hours per month. We are open six days a week, and in addition we are occasionally open in the evenings for special events. However, we also have activities, such as community outreach and off-site sales, which can use volunteers who do not have time to work in the store on a regular basis. You can arrange your volunteer time for whatever works best for you and your schedule. You can work a regular 4-hour shift on the same day each week, but if your schedule changes frequently, we can work with that too.
Type of Work: We have volunteer opportunities in every aspect of running a successful retail store. We need outgoing folks to greet our customers and talk to them about our products and our mission, we need cashiers, and we need well-organized, detail people to help with inventory management and administrative functions. We need assistance with managing our volunteer assignments and training volunteers, and we can use help with marketing and displaying our products. We welcome help with unpacking, shelving, and repairing merchandise. We also can use good communicators who are interested in helping to produce our newsletter and updating our website. And we would appreciate help with setting up, breaking down, and conducting our off-site sales.
If you think you might be interested in volunteering, come by the store, or call us at 906-9010 for more details.
